Confidence and Faith

Keep the Faith

What exactly is the link between confidence and faith? Your ability to believe in something? Well, what if I were to tell you that you can boost your confidence level in you and start looking at the world in a whole new perspective with this little trick…

Written By Benjamin Ngiam

What is Confidence?

Do you ever feel like after so long, after all the battles you’ve been in, won and lost so far in life to get to who you are today, you just feel that you’ve always been losing every single battles?

It’s not true but, you feel that way. Ever get that?

You ever doubted yourself that even though you got something you want to do, feel that you MIGHT actually be able to do it but, because of the constant negative feedbacks that you’ve been getting from the people around you made you feel as if you are really worthless and useless as they perceive you to be?

Many years ago, when someone ask me what Confidence is, I would say something like “Confidence is something like courage, whether you dare to do things or not”.

Well, that was years ago. It happened and I responded with that line quite a number of times. But now, after going through the things that I have in life and also after all the research and study that I have done, I have a new perspective on this word.

So… What is Confidence to me now?

Before I tell you, how about you tell me? Let me ask you, what exactly is confidence to you? Is it like a symbol of some kind? Does the mental capacity and ability to display specific actions mean confidence to you? Does Confidence means to possess a specific type of traits or attitude?

When a person has no Confidence, he does not see the possibility. When the person sees and feels that there is no hope for any possible change, he loses Confidence. Notice how Confidence work? Vicious Cycle to be in and a definite must to get out of if you are actually caught in it.

Now, whatever you answered earlier for my question on what Confidence is, hang onto that idea. But, at the same time, I want you to listen to what I have to say and if what I say contradicts you or if you do not agree, well, I would advise you to try to accept it. You don’t have to agree with me, but accept that what I’m going to tell you, might hold some truth in it.

To me, simply put, Confidence, is Faith. To have faith is to believe. Now this may come as a SHOCK to you but…

Confidence is ALWAYS present. In everyone, every single moment!
Like I’ve said, SHOCKER!

Think about it, when you are in class and was made by your lecturer or peers to give your class a presentation, your palms start to sweat, you start to perspire and as tiny droplets starts to roll down the side of your face, you begin to feel your heart thumping really hard from the insides of your chest.

You are called to step up to the front, everyone applause and suddenly, everything went quiet. You are now standing in the dreaded spotlight with all eyes on you. You take a deep, shaky breath to ready your stiff throat for a speech which you barely have much clue about.
As air starts to leave your windpipe, you freeze as you then realize that no voice is coming out of your mouth.

You start to choke.

So, what caused you to choke?

You were afraid, duh. I know, thats probably what you are thinking. But hey, lets dwell in a little deeper. You ever wonder, “Why? What am I so afraid of?”
Honestly, what are you afraid of? Giving a presentation or a speech is just talking to people, isn’t it? So what are you truly afraid of?
Usually, people don’t do well and choke or stutter a lot during a presentation or speech because they do not feel or believe that they can captivate the crowd. I will make a separate article on Presentation and Speeches but for now, we will just focus on Confidence and its importance. In this case, in giving Speeches.

  • Why don’t you believe that you have the ability to harvest the attention of your listeners?
  • Why don’t you feel that your friends and lecturer wants to listen to what you have to say?
  • Why don’t you believe that anyone is interested in what you have to say at all?

These are all questions you have to answer yourself. But ultimately, here’s the takeoff for this article:

WHAT IF YOU DO?

What if you do believe that you can? What if you do believe, that when you are up there giving a speech, your audience are now all fanboys and fangirls waiting for you to open up your show and start your gig?

Here’s the trick…

See Confidence as a Gauge Meter. The more filled this gauge meter is, the better you are going to feel about yourself and you will start believing that you are able to achieve things.
When the gauge is low in level, do things to fill it up. Ensure that it doesn’t hit critical low and you will be fine. If possible, fill it to the brim and ensure it doesn’t drop too much.

Once you have truly formed this “Believe” in you, nothing can stop you. Well, nothing except for you. Keep in mind, we are talking about the power of the mind at work here. That means, when I say “Nothing can stop you”, I actually meant it in the mind over matter kind of way and not telling you that if you believe you will live forever and not die of old age, you will live forever and not die of old age.

Actually, Scientists are currently researching on something called the Immortal Jellyfish (Turritopsis dohrnii) so we might actually have our prayer answered to that but for now, as I was saying, I’m speaking metaphorically, not literally so please do not attempt anything life threatening to you or the people around you just because Ben said “You can do anything you set your mind to and nothing can stop you”.

Yes, please keep your local law in mind before deciding to attempt anything.

Now, back to the topic.

We all know now and understand how important Confidence is to have now. The question now is, how do we get this Confidence?

Well, for starters, you should ask yourself:

You want something? How much do you actually want it? How much do you REALLY want it? Are you willing to do something drastic to achieve it?
Are you going to accept that people will definitely see something negative in you for whatever you are about to do?

You want to make friends? How much do you actually want it? Do you REALLY want to make friends? Are you willing to step outside of your comfort zone to socialize with people?
Are you going to be able to accept that some people will definitely have some negative feelings towards you for the way you speak and behave while communicating (Or whatever other reasons) with you?

If you are willing to do it and if you believe you can do it, congratulations, you, my friend, have just won almost half the battle. All that’s left, is for you to take up your sword and move out.

Do you wish to be respected? Do you wish to be admired? Do you want people to look at you with the admiration and hope that one day, they can become a person like you? You know what?

You can become this person.

You can become this Confident you, who inspires and motivates others into becoming a better them. You can become this Alpha version of who you want to be.

The Alpha Confident Male/Female who does not demand respect by commanding, but rather, by earning them through being who you are and being charismatic.

The truth is, nobody will ever admire and aspire to be like someone who is not confident and does not think highly of themselves.

Nobody wants to be the Karate Kid if he did not man up and started to learn to fight back. Oh, and guess what?
Everybody wants to be Master Miyagi. Don’t you?

Here’s to hoping that you will find and bring out your inner Master Miyagi and eventually, have your own Daniel-san to mentor,

Cheers!

This is just too precious! Thanks, and i surely want to follow your advice and start believing more in me!!!

      2. LOL I’m one of yours? So you collect men?
But you haven’t bought me dinner yet :-O

And who knows? You might even sound like a Disney professional vocalist just that you don’t know it hahah!
Perhaps I’ll get to be the judge someday 😉
Besides, it’s all about having fun!

I used to do recordings in studio and stuff but I wouldn’t call myself a professional cause I’m not earning money from it- and that was like years ago so meh. Had to stop for specific reasons too but hey, if I didn’t stop?

Probably wouldn’t have started this Project BIY and be here right now, meeting you and everyone else so it isn’t that bad eh?

And yes, I LOVE SINGING HOLY beep.

        Your pal,
        Benjamin
